Day I (July 6, 2009)

The adventure began slowly. Well, actually we were going quite fast on the road but pictures and progress didn't really accelerate past shots from the car we drove in for 12+ hours. Most of what we have to show for Day I is a bill for gas that would make you cringe and hours of experience on the open road.

Eric drove the full length of the trip, and John sat shotgun with his home-made air conditioner in his lap and a cooler of drinks at the ready. We blazed a trail from Anaheim, CA to Blanding, UT (about 700 miles by car) and we did it in style (without an A/C) - crossing into Arizona and Utah before sunset.

Mostly, the route was scenic. The view from our little landcruiser was mostly beautiful, the peaks of Arizona were shades of orange and pink. Utah was something similar with a bit less color and bit more Native American culture. We stopped for gas on a Native American reservation and continued our drive until we arrived at a humble Motel about an hour North of the Four Corners Monument (also located on Native American lands).
